Abstract

The present study aims to identify the level of perceived academic self-confidence and historical awareness among students of the Department of History, as well as to examine differences in the levels of academic self-confidence and historical awareness according to the variables of gender and academic stage. The research sample consisted of 100 male and female students from the Department of History, College of Education (second and fourth academic stages). To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive correlational approach was adopted.

For data collection, the researcher constructed an Academic Self-Confidence Scale consisting of 32 items with graded responses distributed across three domains. The researcher also adopted the Historical Awareness Scale developed by Qazamel (2009), which consists of 28 graded-response items.

After conducting the appropriate statistical analysis of the sample responses, the results indicated that the research sample possessed a good level of academic self-confidence and a good level of historical awareness. Furthermore, a strong positive statistically significant correlation was found between academic self-confidence and historical awareness.

In light of the findings, the researcher recommended intensifying specialized lectures to enhance students’ historical awareness, as well as conducting similar studies on the same sample, such as research on political awareness and religious awareness.
