Abstract

The aim of the research was to (evaluate physics textbooks for the intermediate stage according to the standards set by the American Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS). To achieve the aim of the research, the researcher used the content analysis method, which is one of the descriptive research methods. The research tool was represented by the content evaluation list according to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), translated into Arabic. After statistically processing the data, a set of results was obtained, the most important of which was reaching the science evaluation list specified by the AAAS. It included five main criteria under which (7) sub-criteria and (30) sub-indicators were listed. Using Holsti’s formula, the reliability coefficient was calculated in two ways: the first between the researcher and himself over time, which amounted to (0.93), and the second between the researcher and other analysts, which amounted to (0.89) for the first analyst and (0.91) for the second analyst. After that, the researcher analyzed the intermediate stage physics textbooks for the academic year (2025-2026) and evaluated them in light of the standards list, The results indicated that, when comparing the three curricula in terms of standards, the standard of (alignment between main ideas (objectives) and content) ranked first in the middle school physics curricula with a frequency of (1312), representing a percentage of (42%), while the standard of (accuracy) ranked second with a frequency of (814), representing a percentage of (26%) The standard of (constructing an argument) ranked third with a frequency of (563), representing a percentage of (18%), while the standard of (beyond scientific culture) ranked fourth with a frequency of (293), representing a percentage of (9%) Finally, the standard of (coherence between ideas) ranked fifth and last with a frequency of (169), representing a percentage of (5%) Based on the results, the researcher recommends benefiting from the science assessment standards determined by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) by those responsible for science curricula, including developed physics curricula, for the purpose of modification and improvement through a set of recommendations and proposals to overcome challenges.
