Abstract

This study depicts the role of syntactic motions (Harakat) in delivering the meaning for Qutrub (d.214), re-visits Qutrub’s famous sayings about these Harakat, and examines the syntactic signals that Qutrub strongly believes they have a role in delivering the meaning. This is because they may convey more than one meaning and one meaning might outweigh the other. This paper concludes that Qutrub never stated that these syntactic motions have no relation to the meaning or to the inference. Instead, he referred to the singular syntactic motions (either noun or verb) in the context and the meaning they deliver, for either initiative, affirmative or negative sentences.
