Abstract

     This research has focused on study the argumentative discourse techniques in Al-Shiqshiqiyya Sermon which belongs to the master of eloquent and oratory, Imam Ali (peace be upon him). Whereas the blessed sermon is differentiated by its fundamental controversial aspects, centered on grumble and dissatisfaction against those who Opponents of the Imam that established  his (peace be upon him) right to the caliphate, Emphasizing his Elevated position , dignity, asceticism, and piety. Furthermore, it criticizes the deviation of the caliphate's path from the righteous way established by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and raising a wake-up call of the consequences of the rulers' injustice and oppression. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) employs several argumentative techniques , such as Accentuation, attestation , definiteness and determinacy , exclamation, and powerful rhetorical devices like metaphor, simile, and metonymy. He also utilizes pragmatic arguments such as argumentative ladders and speech acts. In this blessed sermon, he (peace be upon him) adopts an emotional and poetic language that reflects his anger and deep sorrow at the usurpation of the caliphate. He also employs a historical narrative style to reinforce his position, establish his right, and achieve persuasion by portraying the injustice inflicted upon him. And the neglect of his right—in short, the Sermon of Al-Shiqshiqiyya is a complete argumentative text that employs powerful linguistic and rhetorical tools to persuade, guide, and motivate the audience toward a deeper understanding of truth and justice, and to change their behavior toward reality.
