Abstract

The importance of this book stems from its focus on debate, which means the exchange of questions between people. It is said, "He debated him in song," meaning he taught him a melody. Debate necessitates a questioner and a respondent, and its purpose is to stimulate the minds of scholars and explore the depths of their thinking and the limits of their knowledge. The genre of debate initially focused on legal issues, then expanded to include grammatical matters, literary discussions, and dialogues. In this book, Ibn Ayaz adopted a didactic approach, posing and answering questions, citing poetic verses, Quranic verses, and Prophetic traditions. He divided his book into five introductions, preceded by a brief preface, and concluded with an applied study in a comprehensive section he titled "The Conclusion."
