Abstract

The African continent, particularly its eastern and southern parts, has attracted the attention of European travelers, missionaries, and trading companies since the fifth century AD. Geographical discoveries paved the way for colonial powers to penetrate the region to achieve their goals and pave the way for colonization and plundering of its abundant natural resources, including the slave trade. European travelers and explorers provided sufficient and comprehensive information through their writings and reports, tracing the course of rivers in the region for the purpose of controlling it. This was the motivation behind the choice of topic.
