Abstract

This research sheds light on medical waste, how to treat it, and what are the environmental effects resulting from it in Diwaniya hospitals, as waste generation in hospitals is affected by its clinical capacity and the number of hospitalized patients and the hospital's specialization. It caused serious environmental pollution on human health. The research includes four researches. The first topic is concerned with studying the types and quantity of medical waste in Diwaniya hospitals, while the second topic is specialized in studying medical waste treatment methods in Diwaniya city hospitals. As for the third topic, it focused on studying the environmental effects resulting from medical waste In Al-Diwaniyah city hospitals, the fourth topic focused on highlighting the most important problems facing hospitals in treating medical waste. The study reached a set of conclusions and recommendations, the most important of which is not relying on old technologies to dispose of medical waste such as incinerators as they are harmful to the environment and human health and work to increase and equip Hospitals with devices (shredder) and repair of unemployed ones. Thanks Recalling the need to set up treatment units for liquid waste in all hospitals and work to rehabilitate the discontinued treatment units, in order to ensure that no pollution occurs in water sources. And obligate the company equipped with non-stop (shredder) devices to work, provide an alternative device, repair faults, and equip hospitals with bags designated for sorting Waste according to color and allocate containers for this.
