Abstract

there is no doubt that semantic studies of the Qur’an take on many forms and manifestations, especially within exegetical literature—both classical and modern. Linguistic sources are not devoid of such studies either, yet they are in need of someone to excavate them and to explore what appears—on the surface—to be unexplored aspects of their applications.

This research represents semantic approaches to the Qur’anic usage, reflecting the unique semantic nature and miraculous insights contained in the Noble Text, as understood by a scholar of the 4th century AH: Ibn Jinni, as revealed in some of his works, particularly Al-Khasa’is and Al-Muhtasab.

In these works, he exerted his utmost effort in defense of the Arabic language and the Qur’an, shedding light on various types of Qur’anic semantics and considering their different contextual implications. Ultimately, this leads us to engage with these perspectives and to uncover the unique nature of Qur’anic usage—an aspect that points to its sanctity and distinctiveness.

It also reveals to us the effort of a remarkable scholar, distinguished by his tools and his ability to employ them effectively to arrive at unique conclusions.
