Abstract

This research sought to study the textual thresholds in the short story collection "City of Clouds" by the short story writer Sharifah Al-Shamlan, a Saudi short story writer who wrote short stories with diversity and capability.

The research consisted of an introduction, a preface in which I introduced the short story writer and the limits of textual thresholds, and two chapters, the first of which was entitled The Structure of Textual Thresholds, and under it were four topics: The Threshold of the Cover, the Introduction and the Regards, the Threshold of the Title, the Threshold of the Opening, and the Threshold of the Conclusion. As for the second chapter, it was entitled: Interactions of Thresholds and the Horizon of Interpretation, and under it were two topics: Functions and Connotations. Then the research closed with a conclusion that included the most prominent results and recommendations, and the conclusion was followed by a list of sources and references.

I relied on the constructive approach in my research; Because it contributes to the exploration of the characteristics of literary discourse and the generation of meaning, with my use of some tools of the sematic approach.
