Abstract

    The characters are not puppets that live their moment of immortality when the novelist dies and is isolated from his role, but rather they have entered into a formal game that revolts against the author and provokes him to confirm his presence. From here, postmodernism replaced the rational, objective dimension with the reflective, contemplative characteristic.

    The research seeks to stand at the turns of the postmodern novel, in terms of terminology and trends, to overlook the problems of the term and the contexts of reception in the Arab world, to feel the methods of narrative writing and the roots of the metafictional technique. It was distributed over axes, the first of which was dedicated to rooting the concept between the post-linguistic given of Jakobson and Helmslev and the romantic paradox known in the classics of novelistic prose. Then we stand at the second axis on the fields of formation of the term metafiction between the Anglo-American trend as in Patricia Shaw and Linda Hotchin, and the French trend with its two branches in the Till Kel group, and French structuralism from Barthes through Todorov in literature and semantics and ascending towards the crystallization of a concept more faithful to the structuralist starting point in Gerard Genette, followed by a conclusion to show the most important pivotal results in the research problem and its prospects.
