Abstract

The present study, entitled “Syntactic Irregularities in Surah Yusuf: A Semantic Analysis”, seeks to uncover the semantic significance behind certain syntactic features that affect the structure of sentences in the Surah, particularly phenomena such as foregrounding and postponement (taqdeem and ta’kheer), as well as explicit mention and omission (dhikr and hadhf).

The research begins by outlining the conceptual framework of the Arabic sentence and examining the definitions of these syntactic features from both linguistic and rhetorical perspectives. It then delves into the rhetorical functions and semantic motivations behind these irregularities.

Practical examples from Surah Yusuf are analyzed using a descriptive-analytical methodology. The structure of the study comprises an introduction, a preliminary section, and two main chapters. The first chapter addresses the concept of foregrounding and postponement in classical Arabic according to prominent linguists, while the second chapter explores the concept and function of omission within the same framework.

The study concludes with a summary of the key findings, followed by a comprehensive table of contents listing all sections of the research.
