Abstract

The research addressed the impact of dust storms and rising dust on the productivity of date varieties in Muthanna Governorate in order to show the variation in the extent of the impact of the two phenomena on the productivity of selected date varieties. The research consisted of two sections. The first addressed the characteristics of dust storms, including the characteristics of winds as the source and means of reducing dust particles, whether in cases of rising dust or dust storms, as their speed determines the type of storm as well as the characteristics of rising dust and dust storms. The second section addressed the characteristics of date production and the reality of palm cultivation in Muthanna Governorate. It also addressed the characteristics of dates and their stages of maturity. It reached many results by means of a statistical relationship between the aforementioned phenomena and the productivity of date varieties, including that dates differ in the extent of their impact by the phenomena of dust storms and rising dust according to their varieties and ripening dates. The relationship between the two variables was negative, ranging between a strong relationship for the Maktoum date crop, as it is late ripening, and a medium negative relationship.  For the crop of Khastawi and Zahdi dates, there was a weak negative relationship for the crop of Khadrawi dates
