Abstract

The current research aims to find out the effect of the cognitive thinking maps strategy on the acquisition of religious concepts among fifth-grade scientific students in the subject of the Holy Qur’an and Islamic education. The research population consisted of (2474) female students in preparatory schools in the city of Mosul, and the sample included (60) female students, (30 (30) female students for the experimental group and (30) for the control group. To achieve the two objectives of the research, the researcher developed the following null hypothesis:

There are no statistically significant differences between the average grades of the experimental group that studied the Holy Qur’an and Islamic education for the fifth scientific grade using

Cognitive thinking maps strategy and the average scores of the control group that studied the material in the traditional way in the test of acquiring religious concepts. In light of the research results, the researcher concluded that the strategy of cognitive thinking maps had an advantage over the traditional method, as it had a clear and statistically significant effectiveness in raising the level of achievement among fifth-grade scientific female students in the subject of the Holy Qur’an and Islamic education. The researcher recommended the necessity of using strategies based on constructivist learning, such as flipped learning, in teaching Islamic education and other academic subjects. The researcher suggested conducting studies similar to the current study and dealing with other variables such as attitude toward the subject, creative thinking, deductive thinking, and so on.
