Abstract

The character of Kartir had an important and influential presence in the Sassanian religious scene because he lived during a period of turmoil in the Zoroastrian religion and its conflict with Manichaeism. He was able to revive Zoroastrianism and consolidate its influence again, which gave great supportive force to the Sassanian monarchy, which was remarkably leaning on religious ideology. This study has been divided into four aspects. The first represented the character of Kartir in Sassanian history, and the second showed Kartir’s journey to the afterlife, while the third dealt with the role of Kartir in reforming the Zoroastrian internal situation, and the fourth shed light on the role of Kartir in the Zoroastrian-Manichaean conflict, then these titles were supplemented with a conclusion that showed the most important results drawn from this study.
