This paper deals with Anne Tyler (1941), one the most important American novelists. Many critics have describe Anne Tyler as the embodiment of true writer from the south because she tries to combine humor and tragedy together. In this paper, a study is undertaken to investigate the use the novel of manners in Tyler’s The Accidental Tourist. The writer focuses on the weaknesses of her characters and stresses

that life is full of chaos that a character like Macon cannot bear. She tries to give hope and strength to her characters and the writer confirmed ,they must not fall in their lives. They must learn to take responsibility. The writer offers her characters a choice that is fateful for them, and emphasizes that there is no alternative that does not bring pain.
